Parenting : A chapter Revisited

Friends, lets revisit our history, we have seen that transformations are happening with time in the world around us. Infrastructure is getting reshaped, the fashion gets revised with time, even our acedamic syllabus, our text books gets revised with time. These revised chapters of life we accept as it comes, than

friends,

why don't we think that few chapters of Parenting needs to be revised too with time.

Gentle Parenting:

In today's fast-paced and technology-driven world, the traditional method of raising children which emphasized more on discipline and strict attitude need to get evolved into more understanding and flexible approach. The shift from rule-based to gentle parenting has to happen.

Instead of complaining, try to understand our child. During any conversation with teacher or friends or our child, all negative comments should be listened carefully and worked towards improving it. Let it not go into angry or arguing mood, they are our well wishers.

Use of Technology in Parenting:

Earlier kids were not much aware of external world, opportunities and resources were limited. Now the world is getting smaller day by day. Opportunities are many, its a matter of catching it at the right time, resources are huge due to internet coming in life.

Internet can play a major role in parenting now a days. Parents has plenty of data of their child's education, academic performance, school and behavioural records. Analysis of these data should be done to identify their Strengths and Weakness instead of pushing them into competitive world.

Lot of information is available with parents to educate their children that too at their comfortable time and at home too.

Challenges like screen-adiction, social media access, digital influence needs to be controlled by parents. This is a big challenge now a days for parents. But can be managed by spending more quality time and increasing level of communication with them since beginning.

Parenting with balanced work-home life:

Now a days life style is costly, level of competion is more so both parents are sometimes working. This needs balance in work-home life. Raising children in this life style with good values is again a challenge for parents.

Spending quality time, engaging kids in religious or good networks or social events will surely help overcome this situation also. Story telling at night time etc can also help to prepare for enrolling them into these kind of activity.

Parenting in nuclear family:

Now a days shift from joint to nuclear families lead to change in raising pattern of children. For teaching the holistic values parents rely more on schools and extra activities. Parents are more concerned about childrens mental well-being too.

Actions speak more than words, so our life style, our behaviour with family-friends will teach big lessons to the child. Respect grandparents and having them with us will add much more values to childrens upbringing. Their experience, their love will re-shape childhood of our child. Keep family-reading time, family-playing time more. When kids are small focus more on making him a good person instead of great person.

Good person with great values will surely be a great personality of future one day.

Parenting in competitive world:

Do not load him/her with too many activities, give them time to play with friends and family. Teach your child to even lose at times.

Now with so many challenges for parents, in brief the simple approach as per my view is,
  • Our life style needs to be revisited
  • Raising level and quality of communication with kids
  • Focus more on value-building (Outcome would automatically been seen in long run)
  • Engage in religious activities
Please do share your experiences, your suggestions on this article. We all can learn from each other. Let this article be not just information sharing but learning and sharing along the path.

We need to come out of complaining phase and start improving the situation.

  1. Rightly said , interact with kids to understand them, give importance to their views and suggestions instead of just forcing kids to do things …

An UMBRELLA mindset: Feeling calm in life's Rainy Moments

Rain is natural. Are we able to stop it?  Are we able to avoid going in rain?   Answer is NO ,   Rather we  CARRY AN UMBRELLA & Enjoy the moment .   Same way,  If unpredictable response comes from our loved-ones in life, what should we do? TAKE AN UMBRELLA APPROACH.   Let me explain in brief: Rain is natural but we invented umbrella ☔ to protect ourselves from it. This simple act conveys deep truth. It tells us that at times we face situations which we can't change, in that case we need to adapt to people as we do with seasons.  Unpredictable behavior or harsh words from loved ones are like rain. We expect warmth or support, but instead we might feel criticism or indifference.    We can not change nature of our closed ones but we can surely adapt to them in a way that protects our peace and brings joy in the moment as we do while walking with umbrella in the rain. Adaptability here doesn't mean giving up, ignoring or leaving the rela...

Be Like Salt: Quietly Powerful, Gently Essential

What a beautiful and wise thought...... "Be like salt — present just enough to be essential, never too much to be taken for granted, and never so little to be ignored." means,  Try to build your personality like salt. People have habit of taking you for granted if you are always good to them. So never let anyone overuse you. At the same time, don’t be so absent that they forget your worth.   Like salt, which enhances flavour without overpowering, one's influence should be significant but not overwhelming.
