Cities of SMILES: A concept of designing for joy

I came across a new concept of happy cities while exploring, so thought of sharing it with you all.

A Happy City is more than just a place,
it’s a concept built around enhancing the well-being of its citizens in every way:
Physically,

Emotionally

and

Socially.

It’s not defined by wealth or skyscrapers, but by how people live, feel, and connect within their surroundings.

Happy citizens lead to peaceful, productive, and prosperous societies. In a truly Happy City, the focus is on creating spaces and systems that support a joyful, healthy and connected community.

Key features of happy cities are:

1. Green Spaces - Parks, trees, and gardens improve mood and health.

2. Walkability & Clean Air - Safe sidewalks, bike lanes, and low pollution help people move freely and live better.

3. Community Connection - People know their neighbors, feel safe, and help each other.

4. Affordable Living - Homes, schools, and healthcare are accessible and fair.

5. Public Spaces & Culture - Places to gather, play and celebrate art or festivals, make people feel connected.

6. Good Governance - Transparent and inclusive local leadership that listens to its people.

Examples of Happy Cities Around the World:

1. Copenhagen, Denmark – Known for bike-friendly roads, equality, and trust among citizens.

2. Vancouver, Canada – Green living, social programs and nature access.

3. Helsinki, Finland – Low crime, high education, and social support.

4. Singapore – Clean, green, and safe with smart urban planning.

5. Amsterdam, Netherlands – Freedom to move, inclusive society, and eco-conscious living.

Can Indian Cities Be Happy Cities?

Yes! Efforts are already on:

Indore – Cleanliness and community programs.

Pune – Active cycling and green initiatives.

Auroville – A unique model of sustainable and spiritual living.

Many more....

Our surroundings play a powerful role in shaping our life and mindset. A positive, clean and inspiring environment nurtures healthy thoughts and well-being.

So,

Choose to live in and contribute to an environment that uplifts you.

And here I would like to make an important announcement that while writing articles on diverse topics i landed up writing one book 📚 which I have published recently on various platforms. This is my first book.  With blessings of God and elders , wishes of all well-wishers and inspiration of all my readers, I could make this happen. The title of the book is:   " AI, The silent partner of our life",  AI and US, Rising the future.   The book is an eye-opener for all age groups. The book is about Artificial intelligence and Us.  It  explores the role of artificial Intelligence / technology in shaping the way we live, learn, work and connect.  This book serves as a valuable resource for us, simplifying the complexities of raising children in today's world. KIDS : Our reflection, Our Responsibility

Friends, can we spare sometime and go back to our childhood....  The fun days we had, stress-free environment we lived, friend circle we had, level of communication we had with our family, games we used to play with our parents and lot many things.....  We did not have so many exposures but yes, the freedom (stress-free) to play and study. We did not have many activities around but still exposure with no competition around.  We did not have too many tuitions but still had professionals and skilled people around.  Feel so nice to think of all this.  BUT  Are we as parents really providing the same environment to our kids? They are always loaded with too much of competition, too many challenges, too many exams and evaluations, too many tuitions. It's an environment full of stress. Its good sometimes to have competition but everything in excess is harmful. Friends it's taking away their childhood. CHILDHOOD COMES ONLY ONCE LET's NOT SPOIL IT... LET THEM ENJOY...

International Mother Language day (21 feb) : માતૃભાષા આપણું ગૌરવ

Friends, tomorrow is International Mother language day , on this occasion i would like to ask that, when our child speaks English fluently we feel proud but at the same time when he/she cannot even utter a word in our mother tongue why are we not feeling shameful?  It's good and necessary to know fluent English but at the same time it's equally important to know fluent reading and writing of our mother tongue.  Mother tongue is our pride. માતૃભાષા આપણું ગૌરવ છે. 21મી ફેબ્રુઆરી આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય માતૃભાષા દિવસ તરીકે ઉજવવામાં આવે છે.
